  • 4 oz regular full-fat cheddar cheese 1 oz per box, cut into small pieces.
  • 4 oz whole-wheat crackers 1 oz per box; use the package serving count.

Notes

Four complete boxes: 84 g turkey, 28 g cheddar, 28 g crackers, 50 g carrots and 100 g edible apple each. About 290 g food per complete box before handling loss. No dips or extra sides. Keep turkey, cheese and cut produce covered at 40°F or below. Prep up to 3 days ahead, within the deli turkey’s opened-package limit and any earlier ingredient date. Keep crackers sealed and dry; slice apples close to eating for best quality. Refrigerate perishables within 2 hours, or 1 hour above 90°F. Serve cold. Do not freeze assembled boxes. This development recipe has not been kitchen tested. All listed foods included; no optional toppings.

Ingredient notes and swaps

A different deli turkey, reduced-fat cheese or cracker brand changes the numbers. Check package labels because slice sizes and nutrition vary. Grapes or cucumber can replace apple or carrot after recalculation. Hummus or other dips would need their own ingredient line. Deli meat and cheese prices vary, so this is not a documented low-cost box.
